Marble travertine limestone repair, cleaning, honed, polishing and sealing
You may have heard from others that you should “seal your surfaces every year” or “have your floors polished every year.” This is nonsense. After your surfaces are restored, by following the maintenance suggestions for each surface in our Stone Care Guide you should get three years and some times as many as five years between services. Our mission is always to add real value to our customers’ lives. The most common service performed on these surfaces are Deep Cleaning or Refinishing.
Deep cleaning
Deep Cleaning is an intensive cleaning of the stone and grout using our proprietary combination of environmentally safe chemistry and hot water. We use a clean and capture system, which means we are able to blast the surface hot water at a pressure that is safe for the stone while at the same time loosening the dirt and debris and extracting it from the surface.. On travertine and other porous surfaces we can also fill holes and patch missing grout as necessary.
Refinishing
Refinishing is the restoration of the existing finish or if desired, increasing or decreasing the level of shine. During the stone refinishing or restoration process, deep cleaning is also performed because the surface is wet sanded to remove etches and scratches. Once the existing damage is removed the newly exposed surface is then restored to the desired shine using fine abrasives and polishing powders as necessary. Natural offers three levels of finish, these levels are described below. After the refinishing process is complete our team applies our high quality impregnating sealer. We then fill holes and patch missing grout as needed.
Satin Finish Marble, Travertine, and Limestone
Satin is the most common finish for travertine and limestone floors because it appears more polished at an angle but tends not to show scratches and mild etches that occur with everyday use. Most customers are able to get three years or more between services when a satin finish is properly maintained.
Matte Finish Marble, Travertine, and Limestone
The Matte finish is the most common finish for textured materials and porous surfaces such as limestone and tumbled travertine. We will often recommend a matte finish for surfaces where slip resistance is a concern.
Polished Marble, Travertine, and Limestone
A polished surface has the highest attainable reflection. Depth is the distance the reflection provides, and clarity describes ability to clearly see the reflected object. For instance, our goal when polishing marble is to be able to read the wattage in the light bulb. We work hard to create the maximum amount of depth and clarity in each surface that we polished. When considering a polished finish, it is important to know the limits of your material. Most surface can achieve a high mirror-like reflection. Some materials have soft spots and natural areas of haziness. If you are unsure if your marble, travertine, or limestone surfaces can achieve a high even finish, give us a call. We will be happy to advise you.
